Women’s Cross Country Fifth at Hobart Invitational

The Keuka College women's cross country team placed fifth during the annual Hobart and William Smith Invitational Saturday at Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva, N.Y.

Keuka was led by freshman Chelsea Cooper (West Monroe, N.Y./Altmar-Parish-Williamstown), who ran the 6 kilometer course in a time of 26:45 to place 18th among scoring runners.

The Green and Gold scored 139 points to place fifth out of eight teams.

Host William Smith placed three runners in the top eight finishers and scored 41 points to edge SUNY ESF (42) for the team title. Alfred University (106) was third, followed by Cazenovia College (122), Keuka College, Elmira College (152), Morrisville State (173) and Wells College (174).

Freshman Mariah Sergent (Clifton Springs, N.Y./Midlakes) was Keuka's second-fastest finisher, completing the course in 27:51 to place 22nd among scoring runners.

Sophomore Paige Bennett (Athens, N.Y./Athens) was 27th after racing in 28:15, followed by junior Allison Bonin (Orwell, Pa./Northeast Bradford), who was 33rd with a time of 29:29.

Freshman Michaela Martin (Sterling, N.Y./Red Creek) rounded out Keuka's top five finishers, placing 39th after completing the course in 30:52.

The competition drew 89 runners from eight schools.

The Green and Gold will next compete in the annual Houghton College Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 20.
