Wolves Battle Tough at Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team dropped a four-set, North Eastern Athletic Conference match at Morrisville State on Wednesday night.

Keuka College (5-10, 2-2 NEAC) was led by Grace Allen with 11 kills and Erica Shepard was right behind her with 10 for the Wolves. Freshman Ericka Carlson continued to set new career-bests with 26 digs on Wednesday.

Morrisville State 3 vs. Keuka College 1 – 25-15, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18

The Mustangs took the early lead over the Wolves in the first set. Morrisville State had a clean attack with 14 kills in the set against just three errors. The Wolves did well with nine kills in the opener, but added eight errors as the hosts won the first 25-15.

The Wolves increased their hitting percentage in the second set, totaling 11 kills with just four errors. Keuka hung tough in the set, but unfortunately for the Wolves, Morrisville State had their best offensive output of the match with 19 kills. The Mustangs took the second 25-21 to lead the match 2-0.

The Green and Gold stayed alive in the third. Keuka continued to hit well with 10 kills against just four errors. The Wolves were able to take advantage of a .000 hitting percentage by Morrisville State as the Mustangs had the same amount of kills as errors in the set. A kill by Erika Shepard ended the frame with the Wolves taking the third 25-22.

Keuka College had another quality percentage in the fourth with nine kills and just two errors. However, the Mustangs got back in their rhythm as they hit 15 kills in the set. Morrisville State closed out the fourth 25-18 to win the match 3-1.

  • Keuka College finished with a .154 hitting percentage, their third best of the season and best in a loss since the 2016 season
  • The 10 kills by Erika Shepard are a career-high. The California native added 14 digs for her first double-double of the season

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves are one the road this weekend for a pair of rematches. Keuka College will play in a tri-match at Houghton College. The Wolves will open against the Highlanders and then face Wells College in a non-conference match. Keuka College lost to Houghton 3-1 and was swept by the Express earlier this season.
