Women’s Volleyball Goes 0-2 at Houghton

HOUGHTON, N.Y.  – The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team lost a pair of matches on Friday in the Houghton Highlander Invitational.

Keuka College (12-13, 7-6 NEAC) lost in straight sets to Marywood University and Houghton College. The Wolves will conclude their 2016 season on Saturday with matches against Utica College and SUNY Cortland, both being played at Houghton College.

In the opening match against Marywood, Tally McDonald and Meghan Calhoun led the Wolves with six kills in the match. Sophomore Alyssa Rex had 22 assists in the match.

Marywood took the opening set by the score of 25-17. The Pacers took advantage of 24 Keuka errors in the match as they continued onto the sweep, winning the second set 25-12 and third set 25-14.

Jadine Buddingh had a team-high seven kills against the Highlanders in the nightcap. Senior Kate Burke finished with a match-high 18 digs and Kayla Brown added 18 assists in the loss.

The Highlanders got out to a fast start over the Wolves, taking the first set 25-16. The Green and Gold responded in the second set. The Wolves went on an eight point run to establish a 15-8 lead in the set. Keuka held a 24-19 lead in the set, but Houghton staved off four set points as a part of a seven point run to win the second set. The Wolves once again got out to a large lead in the third set, but a Houghton put together another run to draw the set level. The third set would be tied at 20-20, but Houghton would wine five of the final seven points to win the third set 25-22, taking the match 3-0.
