In each of the last two seasons, the Keuka College women's volleyball team rallied for a five-set victory over the Ithaca College Bombers.
There was to be no comeback for the Wolfpack on Wednesday night, as the Bombers (11-3) handed the host Wolfpack (3-9) a three-set defeat inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.
Senior Devan Curtis (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) recorded nine digs with five kills, sophomore Kaitlin Burke (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning West) had 15 digs and sophomore Tally McDonald (Romulus, N.Y./Romulus) added five kills, but the Green and Gold fell by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-20.
McDonald hit .308 after recording only one error in 13 attempts. Senior Danielle Alred (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) added five kills with three service aces, and freshman Sam Thrasher (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) contributed seven digs with four kills in the loss.
Sophomore Alissa Walruth (Hammondsport, N.Y./Hammondsport) served up five aces and added three digs, while senior Rachel Parker (Chaumont, N.Y./Thousand Islands) had 12 assists with three digs and classmate Julia Coryell (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes) chipped in with 9 assists, 4 digs and 2 aces.
The Wolfpack saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.
Trailing two sets to none, the Green and Gold led 5-4 early in the third set after an ace from Coryell.
The two schools traded points, and a kill from McDonald knotted the score at 14 before the Bombers went on a mini-run and led 17-15.
Thrasher hit a cross-court kill to trim the deficit to 17-16, and Walruth delivered back-to-back aces to even the score at 18. But Ithaca won five of the next six points and pulled away for a 25-20 win in the clinching set.
The Wolfpack are off until traveling to Oswego State for a 6 p.m. clash Tuesday evening. Keuka College split with the Lakers in 2013, falling in five sets on Oct. 1 before sweeping the Lakers Nov. 2.
