The Keuka College women's volleyball team dropped both matches at the third annual Keuka College Invitational Saturday afternoon inside the Weed Physical Arts Center in Keuka Park, N.Y.
The Wolfpack (0-4) fell to Alfred State in four sets, winning the first set, 25-18, before dropping the next three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-22.
Taking on Utica College, the Green and Gold lost the first 26-24, won the second set 25-18, but dropped the next two by scores of 25-23 and 25-9 to complete the sweep.
Calhoun hit .231 after compiling four errors in 26 attempts, and she also added eight digs. Senior Danielle Alred (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) added four kills with no errors in eight attempts (.500 hit percentage), and classmate Devan Curtis (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) chipped in with 17 digs, 3 kills and 2 aces against Alfred State.
Sophomore Kaitlin Burke (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning West) had 10 digs, senior Julia Coryell (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes) tallied 11 digs with 10 assists and classmate Rachel Parker (Chaumont, N.Y./Thousand Islands) recorded 9 digs, 8 assists and 2 aces in the opening loss.
Facing Utica, Curtis had 12 digs with nine kills, Girod and freshman Katelyn Warren (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) each had seven kills and Burke tallied a career-high 29 digs with seven assists.
Parker added 15 digs with 9 assists and 2 aces, Coryell had 11 assists with six digs and freshman Jadine Buddingh (Hamilton, Ont./Academie Catholique Mere Theresa) recorded seven digs with four kills in the loss.
Trailing 22-17 in the first set vs. Utica, Curtis had two kills and Parker won four straight points for a 24-23 lead but Utica closed out the game by winning the last three points.
Leading 22-18 in the second set, Alred, Girod and Buddingh each had kills as the Green and Gold won to pull even at one set apiece.
In the third set, the Wolfpack trailed 20-14 before sophomore Rachel Bartosz (Blasdell, N.Y./Frontier) served up and won six straight points to knot the score at 20, but the Green and Gold couldn't complete the comeback and dropped their fourth straight.
The Wolfpack return to action this weekend, when they travel to the annual RIT Invitational. Keuka College plays the College at Brockport at 4:30 p.m. Friday, then faces Clarkson University at 11 a.m. and host RIT at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Henrietta, N.Y.
