The Keuka College men's cross country team opened the 2014 season with a 13th place finish Saturday at the always-tough Oswego State Invitational.
Keuka was led by sophomore Josh Langley (Watkins Glen, N.Y./Watkins Glen), who raced the 7.75 kilometer course at Oswego in a time of 28 minutes and 10 seconds.
Langley, who earned second-team All-NEAC honors in 2013, placed 55th among scoring runners, and was the fastest Keuka finisher by more than five minutes.
The University of Rochester placed four runners in the top nine to win the team title with a score of 40 points. Cortland (41) was second, followed by RIT (82), host Oswego (85), SUNY ESF (124), Ithaca College (184) and St. John Fisher (196).
Mohawk Valley Community College scored 235 points to place eighth, followed by Hobart (275), Brockport (292), Oswego's B team (317), SUNY Potsdam (372), Keuka College and Wells College (434).
Sophomore Jamie Kuppel (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) was the Wolfpack's second-fastest finisher, placing 86th in a time of 33:22.
Freshman Cliff Stevens (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) was 87th in 33:29, followed by senior John Bourgeois (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit), who was 88th in 34:04, and junior Ryan Enright (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili), who was 90th in a time of 34:59.
The competition featured 162 runners from 14 schools.
The Green and Gold will next compete in the annual Hobart College Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 13.
