Keuka College's men's cross country team traveled to Marcy, N.Y. to compete in the annual SUNYIT Wildcat Weekend Invitational, and on a picturesque fall day, the Storm placed 14th out of 19 squads on a sunny Saturday morning.
For the fourth straight race, freshman Josh Langley (Watkins Glen, NY/Watkins Glen) took first among the Storm's student-athletes. In a field of 164 runners, Langley completed the 8K course in a time of 30 minutes flat.
Langley placed 32nd among scoring runners and set a season-best time for an 8K race, trimming 1:09 off his time from the Hobart Invitational Sept. 21.
Junior Alex Pollinger (Arkport, NY/Arkport) also set a season-best time at the Wildcat Invitational, placing 47th with a time of 31:16, 33 seconds faster than his time at Hobart.
Collectively, Keuka scored 364 points. SUNY ESF (34 points) won the team title, followed by SUNY Cobleskill (55), host SUNYIT (65), Mohawk Valley Community College (124), SUNY Canton (171), Penn State-Berks (221), Morrisville State (258), Broome CC (259), Bard College (262), Penn State-Abington (267), Paul Smith's College (321), Herkimer CC (328), Gallaudet University (328) and Keuka.
Hudson Valley CC (409) was 15th, followed by Potsdam State (421), Bryant and Stratton College (427), Wells College (468) and Cazenovia College (496).
SUNYIT sophomore Derek Struck won the race in a course-record time of 26:37.
SUNY ESF had five of the top 12 finishers to claim the team championship.
After Langley and Pollinger, junior Bobby Fogle (Lockport, NY/Lockport) placed 86th with a time of 33:48, followed by sophomore Jonathon Moore (Nichols, NY/Tioga), who was 94th with a time 35:48; and sophomore Rich Matrassi (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills), who was 105th with a time of 37:49.
After the SUNYIT Invitational, the Green and Gold will compete in the annual Cazenovia Invitational (Oct. 5) before closing with the annual CCOC Championships (Oct. 19) and the NEAC Championships (Nov. 2).
