Keuka College Falls to SUNY Poly in Straight Sets

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Volleyball team lost on Friday night to SUNY Poly in straight sets in a North Eastern Athletic Conference match at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.  

Keuka College (12-11, 3-6 NEAC) was led by freshman Brad McKnight with 14 kills. Kamren Record finished with 31 assists and Seth Welker added 10 digs for the Wolves.

SUNY Poly 3 at Keuka College 0 – 26-24, 25-22, 25-21

The Green and Gold got out to a fast start on Friday as they took an early 6-1 lead over SUNY Poly. The Wildcats battled back to tie set at 13-13 and take the lead. Down 21-17, it would be Keuka's turn for a rally as the Wolves scored for straight to tie set at 21-21. The teams traded three-point runs as the first set would be tied 24-24 with Keuka serving. However, the Wildcats got a kill and then a ball handling error by the Wolves gave SUNY Poly the opening set 26-24.

SUNY Poly took the early lead over Keuka in the second set and held it throughout. The Wolves were able to dip the margin to two points seven times in the back half of the set, but they were never able to get any closer as SUNY Poly won the second set 25-22, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set would again by tight, but SUNY Poly would hold the lead. The Wildcats led by as many as four, but the Wolves shrunk the lead down. Keuka College got it down to a two-point set at 22-20, but SUNY Poly would score three of the final four points in the set to win the third 25-21, sweeping the match.

  • Keuka College falls to 0-6 at home against SUNY Poly. The Wildcats lead the all-time series over the Wolves 16-2
  • Brad McKnight moved onto the single season kills list at Keuka. The freshman now has 178 on the season, ninth most in program history
  • JP Nery increased his season kill total to 157, setting a new personal best. Nery had four kills on Friday
  • Seth Welker passed Christopher Mooring and Manny Fernandez for fifth on the single season digs list with 206

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will close the 2019 regular season with a home tri-match on Saturday at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center. Keuka College will open the day with a North Eastern Athletic Conference match against the College of St. Elizabeth. The Wolves will then close the day with a non-conference match against Cairn University. The Eagles and the Highlanders will face each in the middle match on Saturday.
