Men’s Volleyball Earns First Victory of Season on Saturday

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — After dropping their opening match of the day to Wilson College, the Keuka College Men's Volleyball team earned their first victory of the season, defeating Bard College 3-0 on Saturday.

Keuka College (1-4) was led by freshman Matthew See who had 15 kills against Bard. Connor Gail and JP Nery each had a combined 11 kills on the day for Keuka. The offense was facilitated by 48 assists by Chris Corcoran. Senior Nick Cantando led the defensive effort with a combined 21 digs.

Wilson College 3 vs. Keuka College 1 – 25-20, 25-23, 17-25, 25-19

Keuka College led early in a close first set against the Phoenix. The Wolves were up 14-12, but Wilson would tie the set at 16-16. With it tied at 17-17, Wilson went on a five-point run to create separation. They would use that margin for the 25-20 first set victory.

The second was once again close. It would be tied at 20-20, but the Phoenix pulled it out 25-23 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Wolves would stay alive in the third set. They built a five-point lead at 17-12. The continued to grow the lead, winning the set 25-17. However, it would be Wilson College who built the lead in the fourth set. The Phoenix closed out the match with a 25-19 set victory, winning the match 3-1.

Lead Wolf: Connor Gail fell one kill and one dig short of a double-double against the Phoenix. He finished with nine kills and nine digs in the four-set loss.

Keuka College 3 at Bard College 0 – 25-15, 25-13, 26-24

Keuka College scored the first four points of the match in a clean first set. The Green and Gold had 13 kills against just three errors in the opener. A kill by Matthew See closed the set with Keuka College taking the first 25-15.

Once again the Wolves took the first four points of the set and quickly grew their lead to 15-3. The Wolves would carry that 12-point advantage to a 25-13 set victory, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Green and Gold closed it out in straight sets with 18 kills in the third. After once again taking the first four points of the set, Keuka College would go on to the three-set sweep with a 26-24 third set victory.

Lead Wolf: In the first match of his career, freshman Matthew See led Keuka College with 15 kills against the Raptors.

  • The Green and Gold improve to 3-1 all-time against Bard College with their third straight win over the Raptors
  • The 45 kills by Keuka College against Bard tied for the second-most in a three-set match in school history
  • The Wolves posted a seasons-best .316 hitting percentage against the Raptors
  • 15 kills by See in his first career match ties him for the third most in a three-set match in program history.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold have a week off before travelling to Pennsylvania to compete in the Penn St.-Behrend Tournament. Keuka College will face the host Nittany Lions on Saturday followed by Wittenburg. The Wolves then face Sage College on Sunday.
