KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Volleyball team dropper their opening match in the Keuka Restaurant Invitational to Elms College 3-1 on Friday night.
The tournament, hosted at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center, will continue on Saturday as Keuka faces Penn St.-Behrend at 12pm and Daniel Webster College at 4pm.
Seniors Connor Hinman and Tom Campbell led Keuka's offensive attacks. Hinman had a match-high 15 kills. Campbell was also in double-digits with 10. The Green and Gold rotated setters on Friday. Chris Corcoran finished with 22 assists and Spencer Avery had 20 for Keuka.
The first set against the Blazers needed to go beyond the standard 25 points. Keuka held a lead but Elms came back for the 26-24 victory. Elms carried that momentum into the second set. They led most of the way. Keuka was able to narrow the margin to three points, 20-17, but Elms pulled it out 25-19 for the two set to none lead.
The Green and Gold came out flying in the third set. With high energy, they jumped out to a fast 5-1 lead over Elms. The Blazers fought back to overtake the lead 14-12, but Keuka would not go away. A powerful spike by Hinman ended the third set with Keuka winning it 25-22. The fourth set played much like the second. Elms took an early lead. Keuka worked to get back into the set, making the score 21-18. Elms was too much, however, as they closed out the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
