The Keuka College men's volleyball team earned a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victories Saturday on day one of the final crossover competition of the year in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Wolfpack (15-8, 8-5 NEAC) knocked off D'Youville College in four sets and swept Hilbert College in three sets to remain in the chase for a spot in the NEAC postseason tournament.
Junior Connor Hinman (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) recorded a career-high 21 kills to go with 11 digs and 3 blocks in the win over the Spartans (12-9, 10-2 NEAC).
Hinman, the reigning NEAC Player of the Year, hit .204 with 10 errors in 54 attacks as the Green and Gold hit .164 to knock off the second-place Spartans 25-19, 20-25, 27-25 and 27-25.
Hinman recorded his fourth double-double and freshman Aaron Brill (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes) matched his career high with 15 kills and added 12 digs and 4 in the win vs. D'Youville.
Brill hit .211 with seven errors in 38 attacks in recording his third double-double, while junior Tom Campbell (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) added eight kills with a season-high seven blocks in the opener.
Freshman Tim Jackson (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) added nine kills with four blocks, while classmate Chris Corcoran (Big Flats, N.Y./Horseheads) handed out 51 assists, the second-highest figure of his career, to go with 6 digs and 3 blocks for the Wolfpack.
Junior Josh Makin (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) contributed 6 blocks with 3 kills, 3 aces and 2 digs, while classmate Cooper Lyon (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) logged 21 digs for the Green and Gold.
Tied at one set apiece, Keuka trailed 24-22 before staving off set point by winning five of the final six points in the third. Hinman then gave the Wolfpack a 2-1 lead thanks to back-to-back kills to close out the set.
In the fourth set, D'Youville took a 19-15 lead before Keuka closed strong by winning 12 of the final 18 points. The Spartans held a 24-21 lead before Hinman had two kills and Makin added a kill to give the Wolfpack a 26-25 lead.
An attack error by D'Youville sealed the match for Keuka.
Taking on Hilbert, the Green and Gold hit .375 as a team with 38 kills and 11 errors in 72 attacks.
Hinman hit .556 with 11 kills and one error in 18 attacks, while Brill, Campbell and junior Aaron Rydzynski (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) each added five kills as Keuka prevailed 25-20, 25-17 and 25-21.
Sophomore Spencer Avery (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) handed out a career-high 32 assists with 6 digs and 2 aces, and Makin added five blocks with four kills as the Wolfpack earned their ninth sweep of 2015.
Keuka closes out conference play with a 1 p.m. clash with Medaille College Sunday afternoon.
