KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Soccer team went the distance with SUNY Cobleskill, drawing with the Fighting Tigers 1-1, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon.
Keuka College (3-1-2, 1-0-2 NEAC) returns to action next weekend as they travel to Morrisville State College to face the defending conference champions in a 2pm game.
The Green and Gold nearly broke through in the opening minutes. A ball was swung into the box and found the head of Chris Millard. The freshman sent the ball just wide of frame. Keuka kept the pressure on SUNY Cobleskill, outshooting them 10-2 in the half, but the game remained scoreless at halftime.
The pace picked up in the second half and the scoring chances increased. Curran found Rohel Duncan with a cross with the outside of his foot but the volley was sent wide. Keuka had a free kick right from the edge of the 18 yard box, but was hit into the wall. Mike Pastorella found Zach Briggs with a through ball. Briggs dribbled around the defender but his shot was sent just wide. As Keuka continued to pressure the goal, it was Cobleskill who got the first goal of the game. They sent a long ball from midfield to a forward behind Keuka's back line for the 1-0 lead in the 65th minute. The Wolves continued to fight. They got a free kick from the right side of the field in the 73rd minute. Paulin Kolodja send the ball in. Leandro Curran headed it across the face of the goal to Claude Tuyishimire on the back post. The freshman volleyed the ball into the goal to draw the game level. Keuka College had a final push at goal. Rachid Blanken got open on the right side of the goal box. His shot beat the keeper, but slid just wide of the post. The game was tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation and went to overtime.
Halfway through the first overtime period, the same combination nearly hooked up again for the Green and Gold. Curran sent a corner kick in and found Tuyishimire on the back post. The shot was stopped, however, and the game went to a second and final overtime period.
Keuka had the best chances in the second overtime period as well. Off of a corner kick, Edler de Castro sent a header for the near post. It was past the keeper but saved off the line by the Fighting Tigers defense. Minutes later, a long cross was sent for Tuyishimire who just nearly missed connecting with an acrobatic volley. The final whistle sounded with Keuka College and SUNY Cobleskill drawing the game 1-1.
