AURORA, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with Wells College on Sunday afternoon in their North Eastern Athletic Conference opener.
Keuka College (2-1-1, 0-0-1 NEAC) will take on SUNY Poly and SUNY Cobleskill next weekend. They will face the Wildcats on the road, but host the Tigers on Sunday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
The first half was played very evenly between the Wolves and the Express. Keuka College had three corner kicks in the opening frame but were unable to convert. The Wolves had a slight 8-7 advantage in shots. The best chance of the half came in the closing seconds off of a Wells free kick. The ball was sent in and headed towards goal, but Christian Cupello headed it off the line to keep the game scoreless at the half.
Keuka got a quality scoring chance in the opening minutes of the second half. They mounted a counter attack against Wells College and was fouled on the edge of the box. The free kick by the Wolves was sent wide, however. The shot totals were flipped in the second, with Wells holding an 8-7 advantage, but neither team could score as the teams would go to overtime with the game still scoreless.
The Green and Gold controlled the play in the overtime periods. Over the two, 10 minute overtime halves, Keuka held an 8-0 shot advantage. Keuka's best chance came in the 102nd minute. Rohel Duncan took a hard, curling shot from 21 yards out. The goalkeeper for the Express dove to save the ball. The game would end in a 0-0 tie.
