KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- In a battle for the North Eastern Athletic Conference regular season title, the Keuka College Men's Soccer team fell to visiting Morrisville State by the score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Keuka College (11-2-3, 8-2-2 NEAC) finished in third place in the regular season standings. They will host Penn St.-Berks in the first round of the NEAC tournament on Tuesday. The winner will advance to the conference final four, hosted by Morrisville State (11-4-2, 10-1-1 NEAC) next weekend.
Morrisville State controlled possession early on, but Keuka got the first true scoring chance. Ben Schreiber sent a free kick in from the right side, curling towards the back post. The ball sailed just past the head of Romeo Katanga, who was able to get behind the Mustang back line. 10 minutes later, Rachid Blanken got sent on a 40 yard breakaway by Paulin Kolodja. The Mustang keeper dove the right direction and made the save to keep the game at 0-0. With five minutes left in the first half, miscommunication on Keuka's back line resulted in an own goal and Morrisville led 1-0 at halftime.
The second half began with the Mustangs getting their second goal. A strike from 25 yards our found the side netting in the 53rd minute for the 2-0 Morrisville advantage. The Mustangs found the net the third time, scoring off a header in the 82nd minute. Keuka would break the shutout minutes later. Paulin Kolodja slipped a ball through for Leandro Curran who slotted the ball into the left corner of the net in the 84th minute. Keuka would be unable to make it any closer as the final whistle sounded with Morrisville winning 3-1.
