ABINGTON, PA. – The Keuka College Men's Soccer team went on the road for the first time in the month of October and tied Penn St.-Abington 1-1 on Saturday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference matchup.
The Nittany Lions (6-6-2, 4-4-2 NEAC) struck first against Keuka College (11-0-3, 8-0-2 NEAC). A quick cutting pass found Joel Klapper in the 20th minute for the early 1-0 lead. Keuka would fight back. Mike Pastorella found Ben Schreiber on a run into the Abington box. Schreiber chipped the ball of the keeper's head to level the game at 1-1. Despite being outshot 10-4 in the half, Keuka went into the halftime break with the game level.
In a physical matchup, both teams failed to score in the second half. Penn St.-Abington had three shots on goal, but keeper Preston Vick kept the game tied at 1-1.
The first overtime period was a fight for possession. Keuka got the only shot on goal in the 10 minutes, but it was saved. In the second overtime session, it was Abington who had the run of play. They were able to earn a pair of corner kicks, but only were able to manufacture one shot in the overtime, which sailed high, as the game would end in a 1-1 draw.
Vick ended the match with seven saves for the Green and Gold. The goal by Schreiber was his team-leading 10th of the season.
Keuka College will finish up their weekend road trip on Sunday when they travel to Bryn Athyn College. Kickoff with the Lions is scheduled for 2pm.
