Senior Austin Gerber (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) and freshman Romeo Katanga (Manchester, N.H./Manchester) each scored goals, but the Keuka College men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 setback Saturday afternoon at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Gerber added an assist and junior Preston Vick (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) made four saves, but Keuka (10-3-1) couldn't hold onto a 2-1 lead and had their five-game winning streak snapped.

The Green and Gold seized a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute. Gerber fired a shot on goal that missed its mark, but Katanga put himself in position to get the rebound and converted a header goal into the center portion of the net.

Alfred State (6-8-1) pulled even on Mitchell Porter's penalty kick with 6:23 remaining in the first half, but neither school scored during the remainder of the opening half, and the game was tied heading into the second half.

After a foul was called on the Pioneers in the box in the 59th minute, Gerber stepped up for the penalty kick and scored towards the near post for a 2-1 lead. It was his 20th goal of the season, tops among all Division III student-athletes.

The lead was short lived. Two minutes after Gerber's goal, C.J. Reynolds knotted the score at 2, finishing into an open goal.

Keuka had chances to retake the lead, but each time Keuka threatened, Alfred State had an answer.

The Pioneers clinched the win with a tally in the 87th minute. Antonio Fleming sent a header towards the far post, and the ball trickled in under Vick's arms to give Alfred State the win.

With his goal and assist, Gerber upped his season total to 46 points on 20 goals with six assists. He needs two more points to break Loreto Barbone's (2000-03) single-season mark of 47 points, set in 2003.

Keuka closes out the regular season with a pair of home games against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foes. Keuka hosts Penn State-Berks at 6 p.m. Friday, then hosts Lancaster Bible College at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Fredell received the ball six yards out, stopped, forced Alfred State goalie Allison Danielak out of position and scored to the far post in the seventh minute for a 1-0 lead.
