Since the first day he walked onto the Keuka College campus, Austin Gerber (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) has been a consistent source of offense for the men's soccer team.
He was tabbed as the North Eastern Athletic Conference's (NEAC) inaugural Rookie of the Year after scoring three goals with two assists during the 2011 season.
Gerber added six goals during his sophomore season, and led Keuka with 10 goals during his junior campaign as Gerber earned All-NEAC honors in each of his first three seasons.
During Sunday's 5-0 home win over Bryn Athyn College, Gerber scored two goals and cemented his status as one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the Keuka men's soccer team.
With his breakaway goal in the 58th minute, Gerber etched his name into the school's record books with his 19th tally of the year, breaking Loreto Barbone's (2000-03) previous record for goals (18, set in 2003).
Gerber, who leads all of Division III in goals (19) and points (43), helped the Wolfpack (10-2-1, 6-1-1 NEAC) win their fifth straight game.
Gerber needs five points to break Barbone's single-season points record of 47, set in 2003.
Gerber also continued to climb the career scoring list. In his four years in Keuka Park, Gerber has scored 38 goals with 11 assists (87 points). He now ranks third in career goals and is fourth in career points. Barbone holds both records (58 goals, 140 points).
With the win, Keuka remains in sole possession of second place in the NEAC standings with three games remaining in the regular season.
The top five schools qualify for the annual NEAC postseason tournament, which runs Nov. 1-9.
Gerber also scored Keuka's first goal of the game vs. Bryn Athyn.
Off a feed from freshman Romeo Katanga (Manchester, N.H./Manchester), Gerber slotted home a shot in the 11th minute to match Barbone's record and stake the Wolfpack to a 1-0 lead.
Junior Matt Hey (Rushville, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) recorded one goal with one assist, and freshmen Cory L'Hommedieu (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) and Edler De Castro (Willemstad, Curacao/SGO Jacques Ferrandi) also added goals in the win.
Junior Preston Vick (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) stopped two shots for his fifth shutout. Keuka outshot Bryn Athyn (4-9, 1-7 NEAC) 30-4 and enjoyed a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Green and Gold host Alfred State in a 3 p.m., non-conference clash Saturday afternoon as part of the inaugural Green & Gold celebrations, which will celebrate reunions, family weekend, homecoming and the annual Keuka College Athletics Hall of Fame induction.
