Freshman Leandro Curran (New York, NY/Westlake) netted the winner in the 108th minute as the Keuka College men's soccer team outlasted Alfred State 2-1 in overtime Thursday night in Alfred, N.Y.
Classmate Paulin Kolodja (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) found Curran inside the box with three minutes remaining in the second 10-minute overtime period. Curran then chipped a 12-yard shot that sailed over the keeper's head and settled into the side of the net for the winning score to lift the Storm (3-3-1).
Keuka survived in overtime despite playing a man-down for the final 1:30 of regulation, and all of the two overtime sessions.
One minute before Curran's goal, sophomore Preston Vick (Kendall, NY/Kendall) made a huge stop on a corner kick to keep the contest scoreless.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Ben Schreiber (Hilton, NY/Hilton) staked Keuka to a 1-0 lead after receiving a through ball from Kolodja in the 52nd minute.
The Pioneers (1-5) knotted the score on a header from Brian Markel in the 74th minute, and though each squad had their chances, neither could break through with the winner in regulation.
Keuka had the only shot on goal in the first OT, but Nick Smith (10 saves) came up with the stop, and the teams headed to a second OT period.
After more than 17 scoreless minutes in the two overtimes, Curran finally broke through with the winner as the Storm got their record back up to .500.
Vick made four saves for the win. The Green and Gold enjoyed a 20-13 edge in shots, including 10-3 in the first half and 4-2 in the two overtimes.
The Storm travel to Alfred University for a 7 p.m. non-conference clash Tuesday night.
