MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Lacrosse team lost in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Semi-Finals on Wednesday afternoon at Morrisville State by the score of 10-3.
Keuka College finished the 2017 season with an 8-6 record overall. The Green and Gold concluded the NEAC regular season last week with a 6-2 record.
Mark Shattuck led the Wolves with a pair of goals in the game. Andrew Burns added the third goal for Keuka College. Earning assists in the game were Craig Gerhardt and Patrick Giardino. Freshman Ryan Mavretish made 11 saves in goal for the Wolves.
Keuka College 3 at Morrisville State College 10
Keuka College jumped out to an early two-goal lead with Mark Shattuck netting both goals in the opening quarter. The Keuka College defense held the Mustangs scoreless in the opening quarter. Keuka led 2-0 after 15 minutes. Morrisville State opened the second quarter with the extra man and scored eight seconds into the quarter. That sparked a 6-1 frame for Morrisville State as they led Keuka 6-3 at the half. The momentum carried to the second half for Morrisville State. The Mustangs outscored Keuka College 2-0 in the third and fourth quarters on their way to the 10-3 playoff victory.
Battle at the X: Matt Mahalick was a dominate force at the faceoff X for the Wolves. Mahalick won 13 of 16 faceoffs for the Green and Gold. The senior finishes his career with 390 faceoff wins, second most in school history.
- Despite the loss, Keuka College still leads the all-time series with Morrisville State 9-8
- The loss was just the fourth in school history in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament, however it was the third to Morrisville State. The Wolves are now 11-4 overall in the conference tournament and 3-3 against Morrisville in the postseason
- With his assist on Wednesday, freshman Craig Gerhardt finished the season with 63 total points, fifth most in a season in school history
- Matt Mahalick won 140 faceoffs this season, third most in program history
