GANSEVOORT, N.Y. — The North Eastern Athletic Conference announced their annual All-Conference and Regular Season awards on Wednesday. Keuka College placed three student-athletes on the list and Head Coach Rick Ferchen was named Coach of the Year.
The Keuka College Baseball team had a pair of players named First Team All-North Eastern Athletic Conference. Shortstop Brooks Vertoske and pitcher Daniel Steve both earned all-conference for the first time in their careers. Senior Dan Bamann was named second team all-conference for the second straight season.
Brooks Vertoske has been the offensive leader for the Wolves this season. He is one hit shy of becoming the third player in program history to have 50 hits in a single season. Vertoske has already set the single-season record for runs scored (42) and triples (8), and ranks in the top three in hits, doubles, home runs, and runs batted in. He also has played a solid shortstop for the Wolves, turning 16 double plays this season, fourth best in the NEAC.
Where Vertoske has led the offense, Daniel Steve has anchored the pitching staff. The sophomore posted a perfect 5-0 record this season. The sophomore has already cracked the top ten for wins in a career for Keuka College. This season, he has struck out 48 batters over 54.1 innings, both ranking in the top five for a single season. Steve's 48 strikeouts also ranks fifth in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Overall, Keuka College is 9-1 in Daniel Steve's 10 starts this season.
Dan Bamann has been a versatile player for Keuka College this season, moving between third base and catching for the Wolves. The senior has saved his best season of his career for his final one as Bamann has posted career-bests in hits and runs batted in. During this season, Bamann has moved to third on the career hits list (129), second on the career doubles list (31), fourth on the runs scored list (85), and second on the career runs batted in list (82).
All three of the selections were key pieces for Head Coach Rick Ferchen as the Wolves won the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship. Ferchen earned his second Coach of the Year honor from the NEAC. He previously received the award in 2014 when he guided the Wolves to a then school-record in wins and a share of the conference title in his first season in Keuka Park. This year, Keuka College has rewritten the record books, setting school records in wins, hits, runs, runs batted in, doubles, triples, and strikeouts.
The Wolves will begin pursuit of their first ever NCAA berth as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament opens tomorrow. Top-seeded Keuka College will host Wells College at Kuhl Field at 4pm on Thursday in the first round of the tournament.
