GANSEVOORT, N.Y. — Keuka College posted an impressive spring break week on the playing field and as a result, three Keuka College student-athletes were named Athlete of the Week by the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
For the Wolves, Brooks Vertoske, Whitney Tyler, and Janelle Thomas were all honored by the conference.
Brooks Vertoske – Baseball Player of the Week
Brooks Vertoske posted a .400 batting average for the week with 10 total hits for the Wolves. Five of his 10 hits went for extra bases including two doubles, two triples, and his first career home run. Vertoske has already surpassed last season's hit total and set a new career-high with 14 runs batted in. The junior ranks fourth in the NEAC in RBIs and has third best slugging percentage in the conference.
Whitney Tyler – Softball Pitcher of the Week
Whitney Tyler pitched the Wolves to their first victory over St. John Fisher College last Thursday. The sophomore set a new personal best with eight strikeouts against the Cardinals. She allowed just two unearned runs in the complete game victory. On the season, Tyler ranks fourth in the North Eastern Athletic Conference with a 2.26 earned run average.
Janelle Thomas – Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Janelle Thomas began the spring break trip for the Wolves with three saves against Hollins University on Wednesday. She then entered the game at Southern Virginia on Thursday tied 7-7 in the second half. Thomas made eight saves in the half as the Wolves rallied for the 14-11 road victory to stay undefeated. It was the first victory of the season for Thomas. Overall, the sophomore has posted a 5.35 goals against average and 61.9 save percentage, both improvements from her freshman campaign.
